History moves on- with the news that one of the cross-dressing women I write about in my book- Sergeant Friederike Krüger- has just had an army barracks in Munster, Lower Saxony re-named after her! Before it was called the Hindenburg Barracks. The soldiers voted for her, but also Hindenburg’s place in military history has now been re-evaluated- because of his support for Hitler.
So exciting to see these forgotten women slowly coming into present-day knowledge. See her picture here. and the new plaque.
