Talks on ‘Dollar Princesses’- trade for titles, a 19th century phenomenon

Just given two talks on my new talk about the Dollar Princesses, in what is known as a trade for titles. It was a 19th century phenomenon covering 20 years or so when over 454 marriages took place between the British aristocracy and young ameircan heiresses. they brought bags of dollar bills and in return gain the social status that their social-climbing mothers desired. Not to enter British society, but to gain acceptance in the closed world of New York society ,ruled over by Mrs Astor.
