Amalia Kussner, female painter of the Gilded Age heiresses is not well-known. She painted some of the young American heiresses, who became known as the Dollar Princesses. They were used by their mothers in the trade for titles, as they sought social status and above all acceptance by the 400 Hundred Group, ruled over by Mrs Astor.
I give talks on the subject of these Dollar Princesses, as the Gilded Age is now of great interest follwing the current TV series of the same name. There is also The buccaneers series based on Edith Wharton’s book of the same name.
Do look up details of my talk if you are interested. I give this to groups all over the UK.I am doing the same talk in South Africa in 2027. It is fun to learn all about these young ladies. Sadly many of the marriages were for financial reasons. Few remained happily married to their aristocratic British husbands.
